The Slip

In an attempt to strengthen his grip on the metal railing, the sweat dripping from Zach’s hands only make him slip more as the waves continue to sway him back and forth like a rocking chair. Getting seasick, however, wasn’t even the biggest problem he was facing as his worst fears were absorbing him as well.

What if she says no? What if the plan doesn’t work?

Of course she’ll say yes. It’s been 4 whole years. She wouldn’t still be here if she wasn’t committed. Just get on with it!

The two sides of Zach’s brain battled back and forth as he faced his own battle of keeping his lunch in his stomach and not the ocean. His inner dialogue was on the verge of consuming him entirely until a faint pitter-patter of footsteps started approaching him.

A pair of soft, angelic hands start to gently glide up and down his back, sending goosebumps up his spine. The petite woman traces a small heart with her finger a dozen times just under the back of his neck before releasing a soft giggle when noticing his green complexion only getting worse by the second.

Failing to fight back the giggles by puckering her bubblegum pink lips, she manages to find her words by saying, “Awe, someone’s not feeling well. Do I need to burp…
